Election Information

                                                             NOTICE OF ELECTION

The Consolidated Election, which is to be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, will include the election of specific offices in the Village of Swansea.  The offices to be filled and the names of the current office holders are outlined below:  
  •  President of the Board of Trustees - one position to be elected, with four-year term and current annual salary of $15,000. The current President of the Board of Trustees is Kenneth Mueller.
  • Village Trustee - three positions to be elected, each with a four-year term and a current annual salary of $7,200. Current trustees with terms expiring on May 1, 2017 are Matthew Lanter, Katherine Ruocco, and Brian Wells.
  • Village Treasurer - one position to be elected, with a four-year term and current annual salary of $7,200. The current Village Treasurer is Michael Leopold. 
  • Village Clerk - one position to be elected, with a four-year term and current annual salary of $7,200. The current Village Treasurer is Lauren O'Neill.

    IMPORTANT DATES 

  • The first date to circulate nominating petitions is September 20, 2016.
  • Candidates must file petitions and all related documents at the office of the Village Clerk no earlier than December 12, 2016 and no later than December 19, 2016, between the normal hours of the Swansea Government Center of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, provided, however, that on December 19, 2016, the Office of the Village Clerk will remain open until 5:00 pm.
  • The Swansea Government Center has relocated to 1444 Boul Avenue, Swansea, IL, and any transactions with the office of the Village Clerk after October 14, 2016, including the filing of petitions, will be conducted at the new address.
  • On December 12, 2016, the lobby at 1444 Boul Avenue, Swansea, IL will be opened to the public prior to 8:00 am. Per the Illinois Election Code, everyone in the lobby at 8:00 am and filing a petition for the same office, will be considered as filing simultaneously.
  • Also per the Illinois Election Code, the order in which candidates will be listed on the ballot for the same office is determined by the order in which petitions are filed.  In the case of simultaneous filings, a public lottery to determine ballot position will be held in accordance with the Illinois Election Code, at 5:45 pm on December 19, 2016, in the Village Board Meeting room, at the new Swansea Government Center, 1444 Boul Avenue, Swansea, IL.
  • March 7, 2017 - Close of Registration.  This is the last day for regular registration or transfer of registration within the office of the election authority.
  • March 8, 2017 - Grace Period Registration and Voting.  Those still wishing to register to vote may do so at the St. Clair County Courthouse from March 8 to April 4, 2017.  In addition to registering, the person must be prepared to vote on the same day they register.  In other words, go to the Courthouse prepared to vote, or wait to register until you have made your decision about the candidates and issues on the ballot. 
  • Any updates to this information will be posted on the Village of Swansea website at www.swanseail.org, and in the lobby of the Swansea Government Center.
