Village Administrator

The Village of Swansea (pop. 13,430) is a suburban community strategically located 20 minutes east of downtown St. Louis, MO. The village has many assets including easy access to the metropolitan light rail system and a strong residential and business base. Swansea is governed by a Mayor (Village President) and a six member Board of Trustees.

The Village created the position of Village Administrator in 1985 and is seeking applicants to fill that position at this time. The successful candidate will have proven abilities in local government affairs with an emphasis in economic and community development, a demonstrated record of effective staff management, collaborative management style with exemplary communication skills, commitment to constituent service, and a strong financial and administrative background. The ideal candidate will be able to lead economic development efforts that result in commercial growth, an expanded sales tax base, business retention and revitalization, and quality developments.

Duties and responsibilities include leadership and management in the areas of administration, personnel, operations, finances, budget, policy, and communications. Under the direction of the President and the Village Board, the Administrator is a high-level professional directing, supervising, and managing the Village’s day-to-day operations and business affairs. At a minimum, this position requires a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and at least three years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility, preferably in local government. Masters in Public Administration preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Salary will be based on qualifications and level of experience.

Accounting Specialist

The Village of Swansea is seeking applicants for the position of Accounting Specialist at the Swansea Government Center, 1444 Boul Ave., Swansea IL 62226. This is a regular, full-time position requiring extensive experience and a thorough knowledge of governmental / public bookkeeping, accounting, financial analysis and management, and the ability to apply that knowledge to complete assigned work. Public Works Crew

The Village of Swansea has an immediate opening in the full-time-position of Public Works Crew. This individual would be part of a team maintaining streets, sewer lines, parks and other Village property. Janitor

The Village of Swansea has an immediate opening for the part-time position of janitor and is seeking applicants who can effectively clean municipal buildings independent of direct supervision. The position is expected to average 12 hours or less per week. The offered wage rate will be based upon level of experience, but starting range will fall between minimum wage and $10.95 per hour. No benefits are provided other than those required by law. The selected candidate must also pass a police background investigation.

Work schedule can be flexible and fit the needs of the individual applicant, but must be acceptable to the Village. Cleaning of some buildings may need to occur after hours when staff are not present, so early mornings, early evenings, night shifts, or weekend work may be necessary in some cases.
