Public Works

Street Department

Swansea streets are maintained by our Public Works Department employees. The maintenance includes roadway repair, right-of-way maintenance, street sweeping, snow removal, and the erection and maintenance of street signs. Construction of new streets and major repairs are usually accomplished through Salt Ready to Spread on Swansea Streets contracts with outside firms. Some streets within the Village limits are owned and maintained by either St. Clair County or the State of Illinois. The Village has jurisdiction over these streets for traffic control, but not for maintenance, repair, or cleaning.

Storm Damage Policy: The Village recently adopted a resolution regarding tree removal from Village maintained streets due to storm damage. For more information view Storm Damage (PDF)
